Currently dealing with a massive change to the theme system, which breaks things. Most areas are now working again, but some aspects need more work. There is still not a maintainer for adding new content to the site, so I’ll see about adding some material that is being prepared for the 50th anniversary of Glenfield College; most likely from the photos which are being scanned into Flickr right now.

As far as I can see after the site remedial work the login function from the front page is working much better than the old version. There is still much tidying to be done though.

Some registering users do not receive the registration message with confirmation link because their email boxes are full.  Not sure how to address this particular type of user problem beyond asking them to clear their mailboxes so that they can receive mail.

Users do not note the presence of the “join” button in groups/forums.  If a user does not press the join button, then they cannot post to a forum.  Currently unsure of how to create notice that a user needs to join a group/forum as a member before they post to it;  Note that from experience that users will ignore the notice…

Login is now at one page, we are relying on the registration form to stop the bots now, and it seems to be working.

A reasonable amount of users set a username, and then attempt to login using a different username.  Naturally this does not work, and then the user resets their password.  Then they attempt to log back in with the wrong username but the correct password they reset their account to…

Not quite sure how to address that one, so posting here first until a better solution than “BIG BANNER” is available.

I’ve disabled the Captcha specifically on login, it still remains for registration.  It would appear a reasonable amount of users were not noting the presence of the captcha on the second login screen, and assumed they’d entered in the wrong password the first time around; even though the page specifically says otherwise.

Activation emails do not appear to be received by all recipients, I personally suspect the flood of new people has set off a filter on a lot of mail servers out there.  Contact me via the contact form and I’ll manually activate you if necessary.

Linked the Alumni site from the main school website, in theory this will propagate the site links via search engines prior to the major official release.  However, this will also make it simpler for spammers to find the site, and I want to see how much of a problem this will be.

Rendering problem on S4 and similar devices should now be fixed; Mobile devices support in jetpack clashes with Mobile support in main theme.

There may be a problem with the account creation process on iPads under certain circumstances, this is being checked; some people can do it, others cannot, possibly a safari Vs chrome on iPad issue?

This particular bug has been identified as a CSS rendering issue, were certain browsers do not resize images.  A new version of the header image will be made to address this issue.

Site is opened to Staff testing today, with an expected influx of test users during the week.

      Key areas for testing:

      • Logging in on a variety of devices.
      • Checking the account verification process works; we have manual approval.
      • Expected appearance of flag checker for different ISPs.
      • The messaging system; both private and public.
      • Posting to forums.

It is also expected that this is the time when extra groups will be made, and for new pictures to be added.

Major site structure in place, now a matter of adding content.

Added Anti-Spam features, including CAPTCHAs.  It seems to have slowed the problem down to a halt for now.
